Mapping EU Strategic Partnerships

Power shifts make it harder to manage interdependence. Bilateral strategic partnerships offer the political infrastructure to address tensions and pave the way for cooperation. This mapping exercise offers the first comparative overview of the EU strategic partnerships with ten countries of systemic importance at the global and regional level, including the US and the BRICS. Based on a wealth of data, it shows that building strategic partnerships is work in progress and that the EU still struggles to engage beyond trade and economics.
