Moldova: an EU success story?

Moldova is promoted as the EU’s badly needed success story in its Eastern neighbourhood. Whereas the country has chosen a pro-European orientation and stands to make progress in economic and democratic reform, it remains to be seen if this success will hold. Political strife in the ruling coalition and lack of engagement with the Communist opposition could hinder reform and development, while poverty and the weak economy will continue to give Moldovan reformers and the EU headaches in the near future.
