Counterterrorism and Human Rights Protection. The United Nations Contribution

Appointing a UN Special Rapporteur to protect human rights in the fight against terrorism is an important step forward.
It contributes to improving UN mechanisms to protect human rights and promotes international co-operation in relation to measures against terrorism.
Nonetheless, it is not clear yet whether the Rapporteur can exercise the mandate, which requires full collaboration by the States under supervision.

Bio author: Jaume Vidal Casanovas
BA in Political and Administrative Sciences by the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (1998), having completed his studies at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques-Sciences Po, Bordeaux. He has collaborated with the Centro de Investigación y Documentación Internacionales (CIDOB) and worked at the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a Researcher and afterwards as a Consultant, both to the WHO as well as to the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).
