Colombian institutional development: challenges to building an inclusive and participatory state
23/12/2010 By Fabio E. Velásquez

This study, carried out by the Fundación Presencia and the Fundación Foro Nacional por Colombia, examines women’s citizenship in the context of political and institutional reform in Colombia.
It is divided into four parts. First, it analyses the extent to which Colombia can be considered a fragile state. Second, it presents a historical study of recent political processes. Third, the document analyses the role of the main destabilising forces during the state-building process. And finally, the conclusions offer some ideas on the challenges to building an inclusive and participatory state in Colombia.
The study is part of a multi-country research project led by FRIDE on state-building and women’s citizenship.
