Realigning Us foreign policy with reality in darfur: formulating a whole-of-Sudan policy

22/02/2010 By Allison Rohe

The present text reviews the United States’ role in the Darfur crisis, the policy and positions that Washington has taken towards it since 2003, and the current administration’s actions since taking office in late January, as well as its current policy strategy.

No less important in this particular case, we will also review the approaches advocated by the largest and most influential civil society movement on behalf of Darfur in the United States; the influence it has had on public opinion and legislators; and the immediate future of US-Sudan relations, including the conflict in Darfur and the current state and implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the North and South insofar as reaching a durable peace throughout the whole-of-Sudan.
