Bridging the gap between narrative and practices: the role of the arab league in Darfur

Although there are more than 105 Darfur peace talks and initiatives carrying the signature of the Arab League (AL), the League has not gained a distinct profile in conflict mediation. How can this gap between effort and result; between narrative and practices be explained?
The League and its member states show activity regarding Darfur, yet there is no strategy or conflict resolution policy in place. Although the League is sometimes mentioned as the leading agency, in reality it is at best a partner in initiatives taken on by member states of the AL.
