DARFUR REVIEW is a monthly selection of Arab official, journalistic and academic sources that are compiled to give an overview of the main events, opinions and documents on Darfur from the perspective of the Arab world.
The main objective of the newsletter is to bridge the language gap between Arab media and western audiences. This initiative takes place within the context of FRIDE’s project “The Gap between Narratives and Practices. Darfur: Responses from the Arab world” and is funded by the Ford Foundation.
In this fifth issue (July 2009) Darfur Review covers the humanitarian situation in the region; the recent events concerning the peace process; the international dimensions of the conflict and of the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant. The bulletin also deals with the UN Security Council’s decision to extend the work of the joint African Union-United Nations peacekeeping operation in Sudan for another year, and the CPI’s recent decision on the frontier in the Abyei region.
