Spanish Policy towards Colombia's peace strategies: challenges posed by the justice and peace law

This brief comment from Christian Freres reviews how Spain has reacted to the various “national peace strategies” of the Colombian government, concentrating its analysis in recent events.

Being the second highest donor country to Colombia, and having given constant support towards the country in its efforts to put an end to the armed struggle, Spain is the key European actor in terms of the recognition of the “Justice and Peace Law”.

This so called “Justice and Peace Law” constitutes a challenge for the continuity of Spanish policy, as support for the Bogotá government could put at risk the more global objectives of Madrid (i.e. its defence of Human Rights and the respect for International Law).
