Is there room for a positive change between Europe and Iran?

Iran has increased over the last five years its regional influence, while at the same time generating an ongoing conflict with the international community over its nuclear proramme that has now reached a stalemate. As the United States embarks on a new approach towards the country, Europe will have to take some critical decisions.
This policy brief recommends some steps that take into account not only European interests in that region, but also the implications of accepting Iran as a regional power. Tehran could exert its positive influence in some areas that are important to the European security, such as the situation in Afghanistan and, the tensions with Arab states and Israel, while also offering alternative energy corridors to Europe.

Paulo Botta studied International Relations at the Universidad Católica de Córdoba (Córdoba, Argentina). He was awarded a grant by the Ministry of Higher Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt to study at the Arabic Language Centre in Cairo (Egypt).
