Globalization and development perspectives in the former communist countries

Last January 22, Grzegorz W. Kolodko, Vice- Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Poland, visited FRIDE to present his book Globalización y perspectivas de desarrollo en los antiguos países comunistas, published by Siddharth Metha Ediciones. Diego Hidalgo, President of FRIDE, and Hermann Tertsch, Editorialist and Columnist of El País, accompanied the author in the event.
In his book, Grzegorz W. Kolodko offers an overview of the transition in former Communist countries over the last decade, and the challenges, threats and future prospects for the economies that have gone through the journey toward a market system.

He studied Law at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid (1959-1964) and received a MBA from Harvard University (1966-1968). He completed his PhD in Political Science at the City University of New York (1996-2001). President of FRIDE (Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior), founding member and Senior Fellow of the Gorbachev Foundation of North America (GFNA), of the Board of Directors of the Confederación Española de Fundaciones, as well as an active member of the Club of Rome and its Board of Governors. Member of the Executive Committee of the Club of Madrid and Trustee of the Toledo International Centre for Peace.

Grzegorz W. Kolodko (Tczew, 1949), a key architect of Polish economic reforms, is Minister of Finance of Poland, and, since July 2002, is Deputy Prime Minister of his country.
Professor of Economy in TIGER (Transformation, Integration, Globalization and Economic Research) at the Leon Kozminski Academy of Entrepreneurship and Management (WSPiZ) in Warsaw, and Professor at Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) and John C. Evans Professor in European Studies at the University of Rochester, New York.
