Donor harmonisation: between effectiveness and democratisation. Theoretical framework and methodology for country case studies
01/10/2007 By Stefan Meyer, Nils-Sjard Schulz
In the context of the research project entitled "Donor harmonisation: Between effectiveness and democratisation", FRIDE presents the analytical and conceptual framework that form the basis for the upcoming country studies in Mali, Nicaragua, Peru and Vietnam.
This concise paper (still in a draft version) analyses the context of the new aid architecture, defines concepts and key issues, proposes methodology for country case studies, and provides a specialised bibliography. Its objective is not solely to unify criteria, methodology and language.
More than that, it explains the process of reflection and debate initiated by FRIDE regarding the link between harmonisation and democratisation, in order to invite local coordinators of country case studies to collaborate with the adaptation of concepts and methodology, and to resume field work.
