Spain's Foreign and Cooperation Policy in Equatorial Guinea

15/12/2006 By Publicaciones FRIDE

On December 15, 2006, FRIDE held a private meeting on Spain's foreign and co-operation policy in Equatorial Guinea.

To that effect, it was honoured with Plácido Micó's presence, Secretary General of Convergencia para la Democracia Social, CPDS, (Convergence for Social Democracy), the opposition party, and the presence of the main Spanish participants linked to the African country: representatives of the civil society (trade unions and NGOs), the Government, politicians and academics.

The round table was divided into three phases. First, Plácido Micó provided information on the Guinean reality, its political and social situation and the bilateral relations with Spain.

Then, the debate was opened with the attendees' participation and, finally, to conclude, a series of proposals on which role Spain and the civil society should play in Equatorial Guinea, according to the values of democracy, human rights and social justice, were presented.
