Calls emanate from Asian political actors for stronger EU participation in addressing East Asia’s security challenges due to the weakness of the European interest in Asia’s strategic issues. Europe sees Asia overwhelmingly as a trade partner and has been reluctant to develop a security assessment of the region, whereas the US have shifted their strategic policies towards the Asia-Pacific region, especially concerning China.
