Taiwan in Ma’s second term: international implications

President Ma's second term in office will be a defining period as Taiwan seeks an economic rapprochement with the PRC but also faces increased pressure to unite. Taiwan will pursue the diversification of its trade partners and attempt to define its international identity. Relations with the EU will be prioritised but the EU must act quickly especially on trade talks.
