Essay competition: Spain after the crisis
 Ed Yourdon/Flick

The Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior (FRIDE) is launching an essay competition on ‘Spain after the crisis’, for young writers of up to 35 years of age, specialised in international relations from the fields of academia, diplomacy, politics or journalism.

The essay should provide innovative ideas on Spain’s role in the world after the current economic crisis. Participants may consider, amongst other aspects, the following questions: How will the financial crisis affect Spanish foreign policy? Does Spain need to rethink its geostrategic objectives?  Can Spain’s international relations ‘protect’ the country in the face of future crises? If so, what type of relations are needed? To what extent does the current situation reflect Europe’s decline? What can Spain do in this area?.

The winning essay will be published in FRIDE’s web. The winner will also receive 800 € and will have the opportunity to do a 6-month internship at FRIDE.

The essay can be submitted in English or Spanish, should not exceed 2,000 words and must follow the format of the FRIDE Policy Briefs (www.fride.org).

Submissions should be sent before 15 November 2010 to the following email:
