“Richard Youngs has greatly contributed to FRIDE’s growth and consolidation as a think tank of reference in Spain and internationally. We are very grateful for his constant dedication and commitment, and we believe that in this new phase, his vision and excellent work will take FRIDE a step further in continuing to gain weight and prestige in the area of international relations”, states Diego Hidalgo, President of the Board of Trustees and founder of FRIDE.
This appointment reinforces the institution’s consolidation process, which also includes the incorporation of Pedro Solbes, former Spanish Deputy Vice-President and Minister of Economy, as President of the Executive Committee of FRIDE in November 2009.
FRIDE, established in 1999 by Spanish philanthropist Diego Hidalgo, is an independent think tank that seeks to break new ground and influence public policy in the areas of peace, security, democratisation and development. It counts on a multidisciplinary team of international experts.
During its first ten years, FRIDE also contributed to the creation in Spain of other international relations organisations and action tanks such as the Club de Madrid – made up of over 70 former heads of state and government from democratic countries worldwide – and the Toledo International Centre for Peace, focused on conflict mediation and resolution.
