Gelson Fonseca

Consul of Brazil in Madrid

Gelson Fonseca is a professional diplomat, since 1970. 

Previously, he was a diplomatic adviser to the  Presidency of the Republic of Brazil (1990-1991 and 1995-1999) and permanent representative to the United Nations from 1999 to 2003. Following this posting in the permanent mission, he was appointed Ambassador to Chile (2003-2006).

He has also worked as Professor in the “Instituto Rio Branco” in Brasilia and is author of a variety of publications on international issues. Gelson Fonseca is member of the board of directors of the Brasilian Council of International Relations (Conselho Brasileiro de Relações Internacionais) and of the Institute of International Relations of the University of São Paulo.

He is also a member of the editorial section of the journals “Politica Externa” and “Contexto Internacional”.

He is currently the Consul of Brazil in Madrid (from 2006).
