Sébastien Peyrouse

Associate researcher

Sébastien Peyrouse is a senior research fellow with the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute & Silk Road Studies programme, a joint centre affiliated with Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, Washington DC, and the Institute for Security and Development Policy, Stockholm. He takes part in the FRIDE-run EUCAM programme since 2008. He is also an associated fellow at the Institute for International and Strategic Relations, Paris. He was a doctoral and postdoctoral fellow at the French Institute for Central Asia Studies in Tashkent (1998-2000 and 2002-2005).

His main areas of expertise are political systems in Central Asia, Islam and religious minorities, and Central Asia’s geopolitical positioning toward China, India and South Asia. In English, he has published China as a Neighbor. Central Asian Perspectives and Strategies (with M. Laruelle, Central Asia-Caucasus Institute, 2009), and “The Economic Aspects of the Chinese-Central-Asia Rapprochement” (Silk Road Papers, 2007).
