Pedro Solbes

President of FRIDE

With a Law degree and a PhD in Political Science from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, and a diploma in European Economy from the Free University of Brussels.

Pedro Solbes, President of FRIDE, was Second Vice President and Minister of Economy and the Treasury from March 2004 until April 2009.

Previously, he was responsible for the portfolios of Agriculture and Fishing and Economy and the Treasury during the Felipe Gonzalez administrations in the early 1990s. In 1999, he was named European Commissioner of Economic and Monetary Affairs. His mandate coincided with the entry of the Euro and the strengthening of coordination in the EU’s economic policies.
