Fernando Varela
Director of Development Cooperation at EPTISA Internacional
Fernando Varela is Director of Development Cooperation at EPTISA Internacional. He has led and provided consultancy on numerous technical assistance projects and studies and training for development programmes run by multilateral and bilateral development bodies, mainly of the European Union and Spanish Cooperation. He has professional experience in the three areas of civil society, the public sector and business.
He provides teaching for many Masters courses in Spain on the subject of aid (at Universidad Carlos II, EOI and the Universidad Politécnica), lecturing on Sustainability, Alliances and New Instruments. He carried out postgraduate study on Public-Private Alliances and specialises in topics related to efficiency/the quality of aid and the role of business in development. He recently published the book La Calidad de las Intervenciones de Desarrollo (“The Quality of Development Interventions”) along with other authors. He is head of the journal Experiencias de Desarrollo (“Development Experiences”).
