Professor of Political Science and Administration at the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid, where he has been Vice Chancellor for Culture and Director of the Political Science Department.

He was Chairman of the Centre of Sociological Research (Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas, CIS) in Spain.

Has been Visiting Professor at Harvard University, the University of Frankfurt and the University of Heidelberg. Author of Nuevas teorías del Contrato Social, El futuro de la política and editor of Historia de la Teoría Política (6 vol.).

He has also published over fifty articles and book chapters on contemporary political theory. Member of several Editorial Boards of Spanish and foreign magazines, and Columnist of the newspaper El País.

Fernando Vallespín is also member of the Advisory Committee of FRIDE.
