José María Maravall

Academic Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, Juan March Institute (Spain). He is Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and Honorary Fellow of  St. Antonys College, Oxford University. PhD from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and Oxford University, as well as a D. Litt. (Hons.) from the University of Warwick.

He has been Research Fellow of St. Antonys College in Oxford; Senior Lecturer at the University of Warwick; Juan Carlos I Visiting Professor in the Department of Political Science at New York University; Visiting Professor in the Centre for European Studies at Harvard University; Tinker Visiting Professor in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University; and has taught in the Jean Monnet Chair at the European University Institute.

From 1982 to 1988, he was Minister of Education and Science of Spain.
