Sofia Sebastián

Researcher

Sofia Sebastian is a researcher at FRIDE. Prior to joining FRIDE, she worked as a consultant for the Economic Management and Poverty Reduction Division of the World Bank’s East Asia Vice-Presidency in Washington DC. She has a PhD from the London School of Economics (LSE), with a dissertation entitled ‘State-building in deeply divided societies: beyond Dayton in Bosnia’; an MSc in Foreign Service from the University of Georgetown, under the sponsorship of the Fulbright Commission; and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Her research focuses mainly on the Balkans, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, state-building processes, conflict and divided societies. Her latest works include ‘Spanish foreign policy in the Balkans: wasted potential’ (FRIDE, January 2010); ‘No time to wind-down in Bosnia’ (FRIDE, September 2009); ‘Making Kosovo work’ (FRIDE, March 2009); and ‘Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina’ (FRIDE, September 2008).
