José Ignacio Wert

President, Demoscopia (Spain)

José I. Wert is a sociologist and holds a degree in Law from Complutense University. Mr. Wert was Head of Studies in RTVE, Sub-director of the CIS and Professor of Political Sociology in the Autónoma University of Madrid.
For three years he was a councillor in Madrid Town Hall and spokesman in the area of Institutional Relationships and Communication. A member of Parliament for La Coruña during a year, he renounced his seat and abandoned politics to return to his professional activities. He has been the President of Demoscopia since 1987, and since 1994 has been the President of Sofres A.M.
Mr. Wert is author of many articles, monographs and books on Political Sociology and the Sociology of Communication, and often writes for several national newspapers.
