The debate centred on Europe’s role – in particular that of EUPOL, the EU’s police mission in the Asian country, and that of the international forces under NATO command (ISAF) – in Afghanistan’s reconstruction, and the unfolding scenario following the recent Afghan elections.
Key speakers included:
- Edward Burke, Policy, Analysis and Reporting (SPAR) Officer, Head of Mission's office, EUPOL;
- Alessandro Parziale, Chief of Party, Democracy International in Kabul (the USAID-funded electoral observation mission); and
- Gabriel Reyes, Project Coordinator, Middle East and Mediterranean Programme, CITpax; and observer during the Afghan elections in Mazar-i-Sharif and Samangan province.
The event was held in English and under the Chatham House Rule.
