As part of the FRIDE in Casa de Galicia series of events, which adhere to the Chatham House Rule and that bring together experts, academics, politicians and journalists, FRIDE has invited Mats Karlsson, codirector of the UN's High-level Committee on Programmes, for a presentation and debate on global governance, next 2nt of Abril, in Madrid.
Mats Karlsson, former Vice President for Foreign Affairs and United Nations of the World Bank, has enjoyed a long and prolific career in the field of international cooperation that stretches back more than two decades. In recent years, he also worked with the United Nations in the elaboration of the Millennium Development Goals, the Monterrey Conference for Development Finance and the Johannesburg Summit on Sustainable Development.
He has also been a strong proponent, within the UN, for a system of cooperation, particularly with regard to climate change and energy. In 2000 he was appointed as co-Director fo the United Nations High-Level Committee on Programmes, where he led United Nations Working Group on Climate Change. Since November 2007 he has been Country Director for Maghreb (Algeria, Libya, Malta, Morocco and Tunisia).
