A debate on Afghanistan: is there a political solution?
Hotel Vinci SohoMadrid, Spain 26/03/2008
Description
There is a general consensus that the growing Taliban insurgency, the slipping support for Hamid Karzai’s government, and the divisions and shaky resolve of the international community all point to the need to revise the international community’s strategy in Afghanistan.
Furthermore, elections in the United States and Pakistan in 2008 and in Afghanistan itself in 2009, will bring about considerable changes for the country and region.
By bringing together the leading policy makers, academics and journalists on Afghanistan and encouraging an active debate format, FRIDE will contribute to a pragmatic, forward looking debate on the international community’s strategy for a sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
