Is the politicial dialogue between the European Union and Latin America useful?

Description
In this round-table the book ¿Is political dialogue between the European Union and Latin America useful?, edited by the Carolina Foundation in close cooperation with three other institutions, was presented.
The book brings together the documents presented in the seminar of the same name that was staged in Casa de América and finishes with a list of recommendations formulated before the Vienna Summit in May 2006.
Against this backdrop, the panellists analysed the current state of European-Latin American relations in the run-up to the summit, which was staged in Lima in May 2008. This implied a critical revision of the advances and setbacks experienced since the previous summit and with respect to the declaration signed in Vienna. It also asked whether the previous paradigm of integration was still valid and questions whether the existing fora for political dialogue were appropriate to the realities of both regions.
Finally, it asked if it might be necessary to rethink strategic ties with a region that seems less and less relevant to Europe, before offering some concrete proposals for the future of European-Latin American relations.
