10/06/2008

Diego Hildago Schnur, founder and president of the Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior (FRIDE), and supporter of other non profit organisations dedicated to promoting development, democracy and human rights around the world, has been awarded the Raymond Georis prize for his contribution to European philanthropy.

Created by the Mercator Foundation, of the European Network of Foundations, the Raymond Georis Prize for Innovative Philanthropy recognises high impact European initiatives which illustrate the leadership of Europe in global social questions.

Norine MacDonald, member of the Selection Committee and President of the Mercator Foundation, explained that the objective of the prize is to "praise those individuals or organisations which really make a difference in people's lives. This year the judges have recognised the capacity of Diego Hidalgo to convert hopes and dreams into concrete results for many people, which epitomises the spirit of the prize".
